PS 41 Book Club is a fun, pressure-free environment, designed to encourage each child to explore new books, challenge themselves, and fall in love with reading.
K-1 book clubs focus on emerging readers - what we like to read, how we choose books, and making connections among the books we read and love. Sessions consist of picture book read-alouds, a longer book read-aloud over several weeks, and book talk, and other literacy-based activities, such as making a picture book of our own.
2-3 grade students balance group readings of a novel or series with independent reading and discussion. Sessions also include a read-aloud, during which children sketch and draw while they listen.
4-5 graders begin in the first week with a longer novel and move at a pace that matches their individual interest. There is ample time for both reading and discussion. 4-5 graders typically read and discuss multiple books, including recommendations among students of their beloved favorites.
